I finaly have changed my mind : I wanted to go to Romania by motorcycle across Europe, but it would have taken too much time (I read on the forums that Bosnian, Serbian and Romanian roads were in poor condition... is it right ???)
So I'll arrive at Timisoara airport on 27th May, 17h45 and leave on 1st of June, 12:10

Just a short message to begin with

Hello all the participants to the study visit.
I'm writing this evenig, by a beautiful starlit night, from the secondary school were I'm working (I sleep here on mondays, cause there are boarders I have to take care of).

I'm french and my english is not so good (perhaps because I'm french ? !!) so I didn't understand all the subtilities of all the messages... despite it was a pleasure to read your contributions and I find it's a great idea Jukka had to start this blog.

There are two months left to improve my english level and I' think the blog can help !

How can I introduce myself ?
For the second year, I'm the second principal of a secondary school of a small town in Auvergne, a rural country typicaly known for his volcanos (you can have a look to the picture below).
Before, I was teacher in primary schools. I was often in charge of public with special needs.
As I'm a new manager, I'm undergoing training, and the curiculum includes discovery of foreign educational systems.
That's why I applied for the visit.

Very happy to get to know you all better !

Fabrice

Hello everybody from Slovenia

Hello,
My name is Sanja Gradišnik and I come from Slovenia. I also think that this is a great opportunity to know each other before we will see in Romania.
At the beginning, I will tell you something about me. I don’t have so many experiences like Mr. Jukka O. Mattila.
I studied mathematics and engineering at Faculty of Education at University in Ljubljana. I started working in a primary school in 2007, where I was teaching mathematics and engineering. One year later I graduated. I also decided to continue my studies, so I enrolled for a course at International School for Social and Business Studies. I would like to finish this study in this year.
In 2009 I changed my job. One day something unusual happened: my professor of management in educational organization invited me to work at National School for Leadership in Education. At the beginning I thought he was joking, but then I realised that he was completely serious. So I decided to change my job. I wanted to do other interesting things. So from 2009 till now I work at National School for Leadership in Education. First I worked only in the office, mostly on researches. But then I started giving lectures on a four-year-long national project (training for self-evaluation). The project entitled Designing and introducing a quality assurance system in schools in Slovenia is in progress in the period between 2008 and 2014.
I am also involved in a project called Learning to learn (funded from European social fund). I am a lecturer and have workshops on this theme (deep and shallow learning, motivation, relationship between teacher and student, team working ext.) on different schools. I work and run workshops with the various head teachers.

Kind regards.

Hello dear participants,

My name is Cecile Bos from The Netherlands. Please use this name and not Jacqueline Maria (those are my other names). I think it's really great to exchange information on this blog before we see each other live in Romania!
I like to share these thoughts with you to begin with. I learned them from a friend who used to be a principal of the International School in Ghana (West-Africa) where I lived several years ago:
Nobody makes a mistake on purpose.
Mistakes are great platforms for learning.
Hope to stay in touch.
Warmest regards,

Cecile

Hello, I am Mr. Jukka O. Mattila, your Finnish co-partner of the Study Visit 171! As a young physicist I started my work career in Finnish import and export companies (isotopes, nuclear analysis devices, radiation monitors etc). On later decades I served first as math & science teacher, then as Principal of a small upper secondary school.
In the late 1990’s I invited the Principals and teachers of other Finnish small upper secondary schools to a joint seminar. That was the beginning of the small upper secondary school movement in Finland. Since that, I have been running FASSS = Finnish Association of Small Secondary Schools. Currently FASSS has 144 member schools, each one with less than 120 pupils (pupil age 16-18 years).
Along with the small school movement I became interested in Quality Assurance and developed quality tools for secondary school use. Very few had done that before in Finland. Nowadays I travel around and provide Quality inservice training for teacher staffs. Within the Finnish Quality Association (Excellence Finland) I have for more than 10 years run two branches, since 2006 the Educational Branch of about 800 individual members.

My interest in Quality matters is based both on a long personal experience and in the business world practices.
Why I applied for Study Group 171: I am interested to find out, on which level and in which way different European countries handle the topic of Quality in education. I also look forward to receiving new contacts for FASSS and for myself via the other participants.
Hobbies: I love Physics teaching.

Hello, dear partners!

I have created this Blog for the collaboration of the 15 participants of the Cedefop Study Visit 171 in Romania 28th – 31st of May. Please find the writing instructions "How to write a New Post" on the right hand side column.
